ORCA Pod Squad aims to reach hundreds of schoolchildren thanks to Tesco Stronger Starts grants

An exciting new ORCA education project is set to make waves in 23 schools from St Ives to Shoreham. The Pod Squad aims to enthuse and engage a community of ocean loving children, who are passionate about whales, dolphins and porpoises and the conservation of our oceans. And hopefully reach out to some future generations of Marine Mammal Surveyors and Ocean Conservationists as we do so.

The Pod Squad project, funded by Tesco Stronger Starts, will build on years of ORCA’s innovative education and outreach programs, and expand on the work we have done with tens of thousands of kids around the UK. Our vision is to design, develop and deliver a brand new, interactive and immersive school engagement programme, aimed at KS1 and KS2 children, to inspire them about ocean giants - our whales, dolphins and porpoises. They will learn about the importance of whales in the whole ocean ecosystem and learn about the species we see around the UK coastline. This will connect all children with the ocean environment, regardless of where they live

To become a member of the Pod Squad, school kids will pledge to play their part in protecting whales, dolphins and porpoises. Whether they commit to recycling more, doing a beach clean or inspiring their friends and family about the oceans, we will highlight the small ways in which each child and each school can collectively, as a community, make a huge difference.
